Christi Roby Matens, a native of Natchez who graduated from Natchez High School in 1995, was selected as the 2007 Barton Creek Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Matens has been teaching fourth grade at the school full-time since 2004 after spending one year as a substitute there.

Previously she taught third grade for four years in Alexandria, La.

Matens graduated from Mississippi State University with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1998.

She is the daughter of long-time Natchez physician Dr. Milton Roby.

Barton Creek Elementary is in the Eanes Independent School District in Austin.
