He had his truck stolen. When he got it back, half the vital parts had been ripped out.

Now, John Laird wants to find the person responsible and is willing to offer thousands of dollars to anyone who helps.

Laird, who owns Vidalia Auto Glass, had his Tahoe stolen from that business in January. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office recovered it a couple days later, but it was worse for the wear, he said.

“I got my car back with no tires on it, and they cut the motor and transmission out of it,” Laird said. “The car’s worthless. I want the thief who stole the car.”

Laird is offering $5,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.

“I’m willing to go up to $20,000 if I have to,” Laird said. “Believe me, there’s a few out there who know this (SUV) got stolen.”

ACSO Investigator Ricky Stevens said he had no problem with Laird offering a reward.

“It’s worked in the past. It won’t hurt,” Stevens said. “We’re at a standstill right now. If we get new leads, we’ll follow them up.”

That incident might be related to other reports of stolen vehicles in Adams County, Stevens said.
