A Vidalia man faces simple burglary charges after police found blood he allegedly left at a crime scene.

Thomas C. Dotson, 18, allegedly burglarized the Rainbow Mini-Mart on Carter Street early Thursday morning.

Police received an alarm call at about 2:15 a.m., Police Chief Billy Hammers said.

To enter the building, Dotson allegedly punched through a window, cutting himself on the glass in the process.

When police arrived on the scene, they found blood and called local hospitals and told them to watch for anyone coming in with deep lacerations, Hammers said.

Dotson went to Regional Medical Center in Natchez, where he claimed he had been in a fight in Natchez, Hammers said.

Based on the circumstantial evidence — Dotson had blood on his shirt and had left some at his home — he was arrested, Hammers said.

Blood collected from the scene of the crime was sent to a crime lab to be analyzed and compared with Dotson’s.

There are several other suspects in the case, Hammers said.

Dotson was detained on a $25,000 bond Thursday.
