Mrs. Tillman was born Dec. 28, 1941, in Port Gibson, the daughter of Joe Smith Sr. and Gertrude Smith.

Mrs. Smith started her Christian journey early in life as a member of Campbell Chapel Church and later became a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was a role model teacher in the Franklin County School System for over 25 years and upon occasion, taught at Alcorn State University Nursing School. She didn’t mind being a pioneer and standing upon the principles she believed in. Upon her retirement, she established Tillman Real Estate Company, Inc. She always believed in being firm, fair and friendly, and was willing to assist others in anyway possible. Mrs. Tillman was active in her community and enjoyed working alongside her husband for Jesus. She was an alumna of Alcorn State University and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. During her lifetime she received numerous awards and recognition for her service, but none compared to her dedication and devotion to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend to many. She will be missed but not forgotten.

She was united in holy matrimony to Dr. Charles J.D. Tillman 44 years ago.
