NATCHEZ — Cool cars, nice weather, fun music and a good cause all came together Saturday at the Magnolia Mall.

A car show — doubling as a fundraiser for the Natchez Fraternal Order of Police — drew area residents to the old Wal-Mart parking lot Saturday afternoon.

This year was the first time the Order has hosted the show, but Ford said the Order is looking at doing another one in the future.

The show featured 25 vehicles, Vice-President of the Natchez Fraternal Order of Police Lodge Detective Jerry Ford said.

Though he did not yet know how much money had been raised and not as many people came as he had hoped, Ford said he considered the show to be a success.

“We’ve done pretty well as far as fundraising is going,” he said.

Sitting under a tent near his 1984 Mercedes 500, Charlie Vess agreed the show was a success.

“This (show) is a very nice first effort,” he said.

The Fraternal Order of police is a non-profit group that assists in caring for fallen officers, Ford said.

It also provides relief during disasters and helps needy families, he said.

The majority of the Natchez Police force are members of the Order, but the funds raised by the car show will be used wherever it is needed by the Order in the United States, Ford said.

The Order has more than 324,000 members in more than 2,100 lodges around the country, and is the world’s largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers, according to its website www.grandlodgefop.org.
