NATCHEZ — Two drivers were sent to the hospital after a crash on John R. Junkin Drive in front of the Natchez Mall Wednesday afternoon.

Stephanie Thompson, 22, was driving a white Pontiac Sunfire, turning out of the mall’s parking lot.

Geraldine Conrad, 45, in a GMC Yukon, was driving east on John R. Junkin Drive.

The two collided at the intersection at roughly 4 p.m., Natchez Police Department’s Sgt. David Lindsey said.

“Both drivers went to the hospital,” Lindsey said. “They had to be taken by ambulance to Natchez Regional (Medical Center). Both appeared to be conscious and alert.”

“The driver of the Sunfire had to be extracted with the Jaws of Life,” Lindsey said.

Conrad was in stable condition at Natchez Regional Wednesday night. Thompson was stable and awaiting treatment in the emergency room, hospital staff said.

“(The cause of the wreck) is still being investigated,” Lindsey said. “We use witness statements to put together the situation, and the insurance companies usually decide who is at fault.”
