NATCHEZ — If you’re interested in helping improve local schools or the economy, the City of Natchez wants you.

Several city board positions have opened up recently, and the board of aldermen has to find replacements.

The board decided at Monday’s work session to accept résumés for the positions until the July 24 board meeting.

Some positions will require more than a résumé, though.

“The school board, we’ve always interviewed (candidates),” Alderman Jake Middleton said.

Alderwoman Joyce Arceneaux-Mathis asked that the Board of Water Commissions candidates also be interviewed, and James “Ricky” Gray asked the same for the Civil Service Commission candidates.

Once they’ve received résumés, the board members will set up interviews with candidates.

Alderman Theodore “Bubber” West suggested the board have all the positions filled by their first August meeting.

“That’s plenty of time, I think,” Middleton said.

The positions that need to be filled or are up for re-nomination: Board of Water Commissions, Civil Service Commission, Construction Code Board of Appeal, Economic Development Authority, Natchez Recreation Council, Preservation Commission, two openings, School Board

Those interested in applying should drop by Natchez City Hall.

Also at the work session, Natchez National Historical Park Superintendent Kathleen Jenkins asked the board for support in going forward with designing an update to the visitors’ center.
