BATON ROUGE — Two members of the Natchez Track Club qualified for the finals in three different events at a USA Track & Field regional meet at Southern University Saturday.

Alecia Wimbly, in the intermediate women’s group, qualified for the 400 meter finals with a time of 1:00.12. She also qualified for the finals in the 200 meters in 25.54 seconds.

Jessica Gibbs, in the young women’s group, qualified for the 100 meters finals in 12.23 seconds. The finals of these three events will take place today.

“All three times are the fastest times these athletes have run,” Natchez Track Club coach Henry “Doc” Woods said. “They are running against the best in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and Tennessee. They are in the top eight. From the top eight in each of these races, the top three times will be invited to go to the National Junior Olympics in Walnut City, Calif. in a week and a half.”
