Alice Graham Rambin, resident of Natchez since 1963, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Rambin was 66 years old. Born at Baltzer, a farm community near Drew, Mrs. Rambin was the daughter of P.V. and Lula Mae Pittman Graham. A 1959 graduate of Drew High School, Mrs. Rambin attended Mississippi College and Delta State University, graduating in 1963 with a bachelor of science degree in education with a major in mathematics. After graduation, Mrs. Rambin accepted the position as teacher of the sixth grade in the Natchez public schools; she also taught at Trinity Episcopal Day School and Cathedral Middle School. She retired in 2003.

A member of First Baptist Church, Mrs. Rambin served her church in many capacities; she was director of the Carillon Ringers for 29 years. In 2002 the Ringers recognized her contributions to the church with a service of worship in her honor. At that special service of appreciation, the Ringers gave the premiere of Rhondda Festal, a composition for handbells commissioned in her honor.

Mrs. Rambin was also actively involved in service to her community through the American Cancer Society, Pilgrimage Garden Club and Relay for Life.

Mrs. Rambin is survived by her husband, Charles Curtis Rambin of Natchez; children, Penelope Rambin Springer and husband, Glynn, and Mary Alice Rambin Snowden and husband, Beau, all of Memphis, Tenn., and Graham Curtis Rambin and companion, Jonathan, of Jackson; grandchildren, Baker and Graham Springer of Memphis; sisters, Eugenia Graham Rogers and husband, Don, and Betty Graham Harkness and husband, David, all of Nashville, Tenn. and Sallie Graham Van Houten and husband, John, of Marietta, Ga.; a brother, William L. Graham and wife, Marti, of Blountville, Tenn.; and beloved nieces and nephews.

After a family burial service at the Natchez City Cemetery, a memorial service for Mrs. Rambin will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 28 at the First Baptist Church, Natchez. The Rev. David Harkness will officiate.

The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church.

It was Mrs. Rambin’s request that any memorials in her honor be made to Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation, Methodist Hospice or the Wings Cancer Foundation.
