LOGANSPORT, La. — Services for Carlie Leo Sayers, 81, who died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Magnolia Baptist Church with Patt Cobb, minister of First Baptist Church, Pleasant Hill, La., officiating, assisted by the Rev. Keith Adcock.

Burial with Masonic rites will follow immediately at Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Funeral Home, in Logansport.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Carlie was born June 13, 1926, in the Hunter community, the son of Jeff Edward “Boss” Sayers and Maggie Elizabeth Sayers. He was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of the Masons and served as past master of the Mount Vernon Chapter No. 83 of Logansport and a member of the H.D. Anderson Lodge No. 320 of Noble, La. Carlie was a charter member and past president of the Bayou Hunting Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Hatcher; and brothers, Vernon C. Sayers and Billy E. Sayers.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Ora Lee Mayfield Sayers; daughter, Dorothy Woolsey; son, Carl D. Sayers and wife, Connie; sister, Rellie M. Creech; grandchildren, Wesley Dunning, Scott Dunning and wife, Lisa, Casey Sayers, Chris Sebastian and husband, Robert, Rhonda Sabo and husband, Andy; and six great-grandchildren, Eric Beasley, Douglas Dunning, Amanda Dunning, Heather Sabo, Tiffany Sabo and Cherie Gibbs.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Eric Beasley, Casey Sayers, Wesley Dunning, Scott Dunning, Robert Sebastian and Andy Sabo.

Honorary pallbearers will be his Masonic brothers.

Carlie was a wonderful husband, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a friend to all, a good “daddy” to many and a kind-hearted man with a heart of gold who led a simple and meaningful life. Carlie left an abundance of love and memories to his family and friends, and everyone fortunate to know him. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who tried to never miss a day. He was a machinist and mechanic by trade, having worked at Monsanto Chemical Company, Webb Machine Shop and Remco Tool and Die. He owned and operated his own business, Sayers Outboard Motors, for many years.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Nell Norwood, Dr. Benjamin Leggio, Deborah Palmer, Danny Price and the doctors and staff of Christus Schumpert Highland Hospital, George Glover, Jiggs Mayfield and a number of other special friends, family and neighbors.

We love and miss you so much Daddy, Papaw and friend.
