TWENTY YEARS AGO — Al Graning, who started his officiating career in 1957 and is a member of the Natchez Board of Aldermen and an official in the Southeastern Conference, is elected president of the Southeastern Conference Football Officials Association.

TEN YEARS AGO — Vidalia High pitcher Gregg Johnson and catcher Glen Donald will be teammates for at least four more years as they both sign baseball scholarships at LSU-Shreveport, who will be led by first-year head coach and Natchez native Kit Laird.

FIVE YEARS AGO — Heather Miller singles in Emily Hazlip and Tiffany Ferguson hits a key two-run triple during a five-run rally in the fifth inning as the Ferriday Gators defeat Virginia 5-1 to remain undefeated at the World Series in Ozark, Alabama.
