NATCHEZ — Though no official numbers were available early Wednesday morning, it appeared Adams County’s incumbent Democratic state legislators will keep their offices.

District 37 Sen. Bob Dearing carried Adams County with 5,659 votes, 79 percent of the total vote, and also won Franklin County with 861 votes.

Officials in Amite County could not be reached for official numbers, but Dearing said Tuesday night he lost Amite County, and his opponent Bill Guy took approximately 59 percent of the vote in Pike County.

Dearing said by the end of Tuesday night it appeared he had won reelection, but was not ready to congratulate himself until he received official results.

“I would like to congratulate my opponent on a good race,” he said. “Being the experienced politician he is, he made me work harder than I normally would have.

Dearing said he knew Guy would be a formidable opponent, but the two made a pledge early on in the race to keep it clean, and both lived up to their promise.

“We started out as friends and we ended up as friends,” he said.
