BROOKHAVEN — Enterprise pitcher Nicole Sandifer and the defense behind her kept the Cathedral Lady Green Wave off the scoreboard Thursday.

Unfortunately for Cathedral, two hits and an error allowed the Lady Yellow Jackets to score the only runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning as they defeated the Lady Green Wave 2-0 Thursday afternoon.

It was a good pitching match-up between Sandifer and Cathedral’s Rachel Smilo. Enterprise was held to five hits in six innings by Smilo while Sandifer allowed seven hits in seven innings.

“We’ll put one on and we hit into a fielder’s choice. We can’t put (hits) together,” Cathedral assistant coach Penny Daggett said. “We’re going to get it all together.”

In the bottom of the fourth, Ashley Beard led off with a single and Erica Rutland hit a hard-hit ball into the outfield. Even though it was ruled an error and not a triple, Beard scored and Erica Rutland made it to third base. With one out, Melane Rutland singled to bring in Erica Rutland to give Enterprise a 2-0 lead.

The rest was up to Sandifer to preserve the lead and she did so in the final three innings. Beard went 2-for-2 for Enterprise while Anna Huffines went 2-for-3 for Cathedral (1-1).
