WOODVILLE — Corrections Corporation of America and Wilkinson County Correctional Facility recently had the third quarter community relations meeting. On the guest list were local business owners, community leaders, pastors, elected officials, supporting staff members, educators and members of the Wilkinson County Industrial Board. During the meeting, a select group of staff members presented the Frontline Leadership Program, which was adopted earlier this year by CCA to develop first line supervisors.
The staff members, Administrative Supervisor Sharonda Jackson, Training Manager Tira Jackson, and Assistant Warden Victor Vines attended Frontline Leadership Training during the month of June in Nashville, Tenn., and it is now their responsibility to implement the training at the facility level.
“The overall premise of the program is to develop specific traits needed to be an effective leader. Character and skill are two valuable traits found in successful leaders, and it is impossible to possess one without the other and be successful as a first line leader,” expressed by the presenters. The door prizes were carved to perfection by our Vocational Instructor, Edward Arbuthnot and his department orderlies.
WCCF hosts four community advisory meetings per year with the participation from community leaders.
“It is always our pleasure to host and entertain our community,” Warden Jacquelyn Banks said. “These meetings also give us the chance to acknowledge the staff members and their accomplishments as well as informing the community of latest developments in corrections. During the meeting, an acknowledgement and plaque was awarded to Assistant Warden Gabriel Walker for his outstanding work and dedication in areas above and beyond the call of duty. He has led the facility employees in donating and raising over $15,000 the past few years in fundraisers. He has a huge heart and it is evident as he gives his all when a staff member is in distress and in need of a blessing, and we are appreciative and grateful of his services.”
Lunch was catered by the food service manager and canteen employees. Our very own Shift Supervisor Lee Wilson, Unit Manager Elliot Beauchamp and Walter Turner gave their added zest by preparing fried catfish and hushpuppies. Decorations were captivating as presented by our Shift Supervisor Ella Scott.
