Woodville — The results of four of Wilkinson County’s Aug. 7 elections will be contested in court Tuesday.
Contesting the elections are board of supervisors second district candidate Kirk Smith, fourth district candidate Wally Cavin, circuit clerk candidate Jeanette Delaney and sheriff candidate Jessie Stewart.
Election results for Wilkinson County were certified Aug. 14.
The election for second district supervisor went to incumbent Richard Hollins by 28 votes.
In the fourth district election, incumbent Robert Morgan took 665 votes, 280 more than challenger Cavin.
With 2,273 votes, incumbent Circuit Clerk Mon Cree Allen narrowly took 66 more votes than Delaney.
The sheriff’s race saw Sheriff Reginald “Pip” Jackson take 222 more votes than Stewart, who received 2,207 votes.
Allegations of voter fraud have been made in recent weeks, and federal elections regulators were on hand for the election.
The FBI and the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Justice Department were also in Woodville at the time of the election to investigate claims of civil rights violations.
Tuesday’s court proceedings will not result in any kind of ruling about the election, Allen said.
“It’s just one of several steps that need to be taken when an election is contested,” he said.
