NATCHEZ — The Prairie View Spartans handed the Trinity Lady Saints their first district loss 12-3 Thursday night.

“It was a disappointing loss for us,” Saints head coach Sue Geter said. “This was a game we felt like we could have one.”

Starting pitcher for the Saints Alyx Atkinson had a tough outing allowing 17 hits in five innings.

Winning pitcher Kala Tyson had a shutout going until the fifth inning. She allowed six hits in five innings.

“(Tyson) pitched a good game,” Geter said. “We still should have hit her. We were just off tonight with our hitting and fielding.”

The Spartans tallied at least one run in each inning breaking the Lady Saints’ with a five-run fifth inning.

“There were plays that we should have made but didn’t,” Atkinson said. “After that it all went downhill.”

The Lady Saints now sit second to Prairie View in the standings. They will meet again on Sept. 11.

“We gave up tonight,” Geter said. “We can’t do that against at team as good as Prairie View.”

The Lady Saints return to the field Tuesday playing at Adams County Christian School at 4:15 p.m.
