TWENTY YEARS AGO — ACCS’s football team suffers a big blow as tailback/defensive lineman C.J. Kirk is diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee, which will keep him out for six months. The injury will also force Kirk to miss the basketball season.

TEN YEARS AGO —The teams of Iley Dillon, George Dickens, Bennie Daigre, Charles Johnson and Ed Zuccaro as well as Shawn Handjis, Phil Hennington, Tom and Faye Kolb, and Pete Buttross finish in a tie for first with rounds of 60 at the Labor Day Breakfast Scramble.

FIVE YEARS AGO — Lee Suggs and Thomas Jones combine for 159 yards rushing on 37 total carries with three touchdowns and Virginia Tech’s defense holds LSU to a meager 214 total yards of offense as 16th-ranked Hokies defeat the 14th-ranked Tigers 26-8.
