NATCHEZ — A private memorial service will be at a later date for Leon “Lee” William Stockfelt Jr., 78, of Natchez, who died at his residence Friday, Sept. 7, 2007.

Mr. Stockfelt was a resident of Natchez from early childhood through high school. He attended the University of Alabama from 1948-1953, marrying fellow student Beverly Busby in March, 1953. While in college he played percussion in the Million Dollar Band, the University and Birmingham Symphony orchestras and the Alabama Cavaliers, a dance band.

Following college he was a commercial copywriter for radio and TV stations in Montgomery, Birmingham and Huntsville, Ala. From 1961-1966 he was a scriptwriter for Teleprompter, pioneering the use of the television as a training aid for the U.S. Army’s Missile Maintenance School at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville. In 1966 he joined LTV (later Vought Aircraft Company) as a script writer/director/narrator in their film/TV production unit. In 1975, he moved to Esfahan, Iran, as manager of TV production for Bell Helicopter’s support of the Iranian Army Helicopter School, where he remained until early 1979 and evacuated at the height of the Iranian revolution. He joined Vought Aircraft in 1979 and retired in 1993.

Mr. Stockfelt was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Diane Stockfelt, and his wife of 40 years, Beverly.

Survivors include three children, Mrs. Karen Fredd, of Dallas, Tony Stuart Stockfelt, of Rhome, Texas and Robin Stockfelt of Natchez.
