Una Maxwell

FERRIDAY — Graceside services for Una Cross Maxwell, 100, of Monterey, who died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at Ollie Steele Burden Manor in Baton Rouge will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Scott Cemetery in Monterey with the Rev. Russell Crum officiating and under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. at Scott Cemetery.
Una Maxwell was born Oct. 23, 1906, in Monterey, the daughter of William Adkin Cross Jr. and Helen Cavin Cross. Mrs. Maxwell was a native and life-long resident of Concordia Parish. She received her early education in the Monterey public schools and graduated from Monterey High School. She attended Louisiana State Normal College in Natchitoches, from which she obtained her educational certification. She taught elementary school at Larto Lake in Catahoula Parish and at Shaw in Concordia Parish. She was also a member of the Young at Heart Club and Monterey Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Abner Maxwell, sisters Myrtle Cross Smith, Belle Cross Warren Beard, twin sister, Ula Cross Moreland and brothers Howard Pugh Cross and Herman Obid Cross.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews and their descendants.
Memorials may be made to Monterey Christian Church or charity of choice.
