Ollie Squalls

NATCHEZ — Services for Ollie Mae Squalls, 83, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Greater St. Mark Baptist Church with the Rev. Maurice Irving officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Squalls was born Nov. 11, 1923, in Adams County, the daughter of Sam Singleton Sr. and Mary Wren Singleton. She was educated in the Adams County public schools. Mrs. Squalls was a member of Greater St. Mark Baptist Church where she sang in the church choir and served on the mother’s board.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Phillip Squalls Sr.; sons, Phillip Squalls and Bernard Squalls; daughters, Gloria Squalls and Dorothy Mae Squalls; and brother, William Singleton.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Edna Squalls of Natchez; her sons, Michael Squalls and wife, Jacqueline, both of Los Angeles, Sam Squalls and wife, Yolanda, both of Denver, Colo., and Robert Squalls and wife, Brenda, both of San Bernadino, Calif.; brothers, Sam Singleton Jr. and Elijah Singleton, both of Oakland, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rosie Lee Singleton of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
