VIDALIA — While incumbent Clyde Ray Webber won re-election in the clerk of court race, both candidates said they were pleased.
Webber won 5,352 votes, or 75.88 percent of the vote.
Justin Conner won 1,701 votes, or 24.12 percent.
“My opponent ran a good, clean race, and that’s the way it ought to be,” Webber said.
Conner, too, said he appreciated the integrity between the two men.
“The professionalism and dignity that went into the campaign was overwhelming,” Conner said.
Webber said he would continue to “keep running a good office.”
Having an opponent was an opportunity, he said.
“I hadn’t run in a while, and it was really nice to get back out and campaign again,” he said.
Conner, a member of the parish board of supervisors of elections, wouldn’t say whether he would run again in the next race.
“We do have political ambition, as always,” Conner said. “We’re going to work with (Webber) to make the voting system as smooth as possible.
