TWENTY YEARS AGO — Tom Lawless hits a three-run home run, his first homer since 1984 and the second of his career, during a six-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth inning as the St. Louis Cardinals even the World Series at two games apiece with a 7-2 win over Minnesota.
TEN YEARS AGO — Mary Barnett has four hits and four RBIs as Cathedral defeats Noxapeter 14-6 in Game 1 and Krystal Groom hits an inside-the-park home run as the Lady Green Wave hold on for a 12-11 win in Game 2 in the second round of the Class 1A South State Playoffs.
FIVE YEARS AGO — Tommy Maddox throws two touchdown passes and Jerome Bettis scores on a pair of short touchdown runs as the Pittsburgh Steelers defeat the Indianapolis Colts 28-10 in Terry Bradshaw’s first appearance in the “Steel City” since his retirement nearly 20 years ago.
