FARMERVILLE, La. — Ferriday’s perfect season and its chance of winning the District 2-2A championship were on the line Friday night against a Farmerville team that needed a win to finish undefeated in district play.

After a sluggish first half, the Trojans scored 16 unanswered points in the second half while their defense shut down the Farmers en route to a 24-12 win to take over first place in the district standings.

“The offensive line did a good job. We had success running the ball straight (up the middle),” Ferriday head coach Freddie Harrison said. “Donald Rick Washington had two big catches.”

Ferriday (9-0, 3-0) couldn’t get much going offensively in the first half and trailed Farmerville (4-5, 3-1) 12-8 at halftime. But some adjustments by the defense also proved to be a key factor in the Trojans’ come-from-behind win.

“The defense played great. We created some key turnovers. We shut them out in the second half. Big time players make big time plays in big time games,” Harrison said. “It was a big win for us. It had rained here all week. The field was soaking up.”

And while Ferriday still needs to defeat a winless Lake Providence team next Friday night to win the district title outright, he also said that because Farmerville had a tough non-district schedule, the Farmers also deserve to be in the playoffs.

“I’m so happy we pulled out the win,” he said. “Farmerville played with their backs against the wall.”
