NATCHEZ – Services for Mattie Perkins, 83, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, at St. John Medical Center, in Santa Monica, Calif., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Beginning Baptist Church, 106 St. Catherine St., with the Rev. LeRoy White officiating.

Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.

Ms. Perkins was born Jan. 14, 1923, in Wilkinson County, the daughter of Paul and Elizanne McCullough Perkins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Fleming Anthony Groom; brothers, Willie, Mose and Charlie Perkins; and sisters, Dixie Mealy, Edna R. Dromgoole, Malinda R. Turner, Nellie Wells and Sisley Jones.

Survivors include her daughters, Sarah D. Groom of Los Angeles and Mary Dennis of Santa Clara, Calif.; grandchildren, Natalie G. Cheek, Patrice Groom Shorter and husband, Leon, Patrick Charles Groom, all of Los Angeles and Mignon Jackson of Santa Clara, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Virginia P. Franklin: brother-in-law, Samuel Jones, both of Natchez; sister-in-law, Estelle B. Perkins of Woodville; and a number of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Frederick Franklin, Mose Perkins Jr., Earnest Paul Perkins, Kenneth Dromgoole, Robert Robinson, Curtis Dromgoole and Barney Joe Schoby.

Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Charles Groom, Nicholas “Nick” Jackson, Leon Shorter, Ben Wells, Elmo Turner Jr., John Earl Franklin, Roger Edward Jones and Chris Groom.
