VIDALIA — At approximately 5 p.m. Saturday a male was found dead in a ditch on U.S. 84 near Missionary Baptist Church in Vidalia.

Two pedestrians walking by the site Saturday evening discovered him. The deceased man was an elderly man dressed in a blue jacket and dark pants. He had no identification on or around him. Two Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were on the scene in addition to an ambulance rescue unit.

“All we know is that we have an individual laying in a ditch at this point,” Lt. Danny Merrill said.

The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s office will begin talking to people around the area where the body was found in order to determine his identity, Merrill said. An autopsy that will be performed by the coroner will determine the manner in which he died.
