NATCHEZ — An early morning fight reportedly escalated to a drawn weapon and ended in a stabbing Saturday.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office received a call about the incident — which occurred at 5 Baldwin Lane — at approximately 4:10 a.m.
Jonathan Royce Averette, 24, 6500 McRay Road, Lot 14, Semmes, Ala., was arrested on charges of aggravated assault.
Averette reportedly told authorities the victim, Russell Herring, pulled a gun on him during an altercation, and he grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed Herring several times to keep the Herring from jumping on him, according to reports at the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
Three other subjects were reportedly present.
Herring was transported to Natchez Regional Hospital for treatment.
Averette was detained without bond Saturday.
