NATCHEZ – Services for Barney Ray Smith, 82, of Natchez, who died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. today at Parkway Baptist Church with the Rev. Jason Cole officiating.
Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery, in Franklin County, under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.
Mr. Smith was born May 28, 1925, in Wisner, La., the son of Oscar and Palmae Lewis Smith. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church and the Adult Six Men’s Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the American Legion and was a veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanette Scott Smith; three brothers, Paul Vernon Smith, Sidney Smith and J. Hugh Smith; and one grandchild, Julianna Madison Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Jewel Bennett Delatte Smith; four children, Barbara Smith Tuttle and husband, John, Ken Smith and wife, Suzie, Gary Smith and wife, Vivian, all of Natchez, and Ronnie Smith and wife, Candy, both of Madison; one stepson, Allen Delatte and wife, Norma, both of Zachary, La.; two stepdaughters, Pamela Clanton of Slaughter, La., and Rhonda Ken and husband, Roy, both of Jackson, La.; four sisters, Geneva Smith Carroll, Marguerite Smith Johnson, Ann Barlow and Wanzie Smith Hart; and 10 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jody Smith, Casey Smith, Shane Tuttle, Joshua Smith, Jay Holliday, Shannon Patterson and Randy Simpson.
Honorary pallbearers will be special friends, George Stevens, James Delaney, Curtis King, J.T. Smith and members of the Adult Six Sunday School Class.
The Smith family thanks Dr. Barry Tillman for his wonderful care.
