NATCHEZ – Services for Sherie Adkins Haygood, 48, of Natchez, who died Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Lee Miley and Father Jim Benbrook officiating.
Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Haygood was born May 19, 1959, in Jackson, the daughter of Roy Eddie Adkins and Billie Rustin Adkins Laird. She was a 1978 graduate of Wingfield High School and attended Mississippi State University, Mississippi College and Miss Wade’s Fashion School of Design in Dallas, pursuing an interest in design and merchandising. She assisted her husband, Dr. Gary Haygood, in his dental practice.
Sherie’s great love was not only her children, Isaac and Hope, but the many children of her family and friends. She also opened her home and heart to serve as a foster mom. One of her greatest joys was to buy “happies” for her friends and family.
She was a member of Praise Cathedral Church of God, in Meadville, and the Pilgrimage Garden Club of Natchez.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1973.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Gary Haygood; four children, Isaac and Hope, both of Natchez, Ryan and Lori Haygood, both of Bossier City, La.; two grandchildren, Brenna and Logan Watts, both of Bossier City; her parents, Charles and Billie Laird, both of Natchez; one brother, Tony Adkins and wife, Kay, both of Plano, Texas; 10 nieces and nephews, Suzanne and Hunter Adkins of Madison, Rian and Regan Johnson of Flower Mound, Texas, Dixon Laird of Amory, Abby and Brittany Laird of Natchez, Payton McNair of South Carolina, Sara Petty of Mobile, Ala., and James Petty of Hattiesburg; one stepsister, Jenny Petty and husband, Benny, both of Hattiesburg; two stepbrothers, Dicky Laird and wife, Diane, and Gene Laird and wife, Laura, all of Natchez; and mother-in-law, Janey Haygood of Bossier City.
She was indeed blessed by her many special friends, including Tammy Ravenstein and her children, Reagan and Emerald, Suzanne Gould, Dawn Thomas, Christine Newman, Susan Adkins, Cookie Atkinson and Kasey Depta.
Pallbearers will be Tony Adkins, Hunter Adkins, Dixon Laird, Ryan Haygood, James Petty, Ronnie Ravenstein and Jamison Anding.
