Natchez blasts Wingfield

NATCHEZ — Through three innings, it looked as though Natchez and Wingfield would go down to the wire, but the Bulldogs broke loose with an 11-run fourth inning and downed the Falcons 12-2 Tuesday evening.
“We played with no intensity, we just waited on them to mess up,” Natchez head coach Charlie Williams said. “Fortunately we capitalized on their mistakes.”
Wingfield had only two hits in the game, both coming in the second inning.
The game was tied 1-1 in the fourth inning, but Kennan McAllister hit a three-run double that gave Natchez the momentum it needed and the Bulldogs took a three-run lead.
Brian Issac, Thomas Hughes, Travis Issac, Melvin Davis, Richard Chatman, and McAllister all collected hits in the inning.
Natchez (7-8, 3-4) scored a total of 11 runs in the inning and took an 11-run lead over Wingfield.
A wild pitch allowed the Falcons to score a run in the top of the fifth, but it wasn’t enough and Natchez came away with the win after five innings of play.
“We needed some timely hitting and we got it,” Williams said. “I still believe that we are going to have to learn how to stay focused and consistent. It’s near the end of the season and we should have these things figured out.”
Javon Washington earned the win for Natchez while J. Rondall was dealt the loss for Wingfield.
McAllister batted 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs with a double, a single and three RBIs.
Natchez faces Franklin County at home Friday in a non-district contest.
