Charles Ellis Sr.

SEATTLE, Wash. – Brother Charles C. Ellis Sr., of Seattle, Wash., was called home to be with Jesus on Saturday, April 12, 2008.
He was born Nov. 16, 1917, in Vidalia, the oldest son of Joseph P. Latham and Savannah Latham of Ferriday. Mr. Ellis completed his high school education in the public schools in Concordia Parish and attended Southern University in Baton Rouge.
He served his country well as a World War II veteran in the South Pacific and received an honorable discharge. In 1946, after serving his country, he came to Ferriday where he met and married his wife, Annie Lee Jackson.
In 1965, he received “Christ” as his personal Savior and was baptized by the late Rev. Freddie Williams Jr. of the Mercy Seat Baptist Church in Ferriday. Mr. Ellis was a man that loved the Lord, his family and his community. He worked many years and long hours to support his wife and family. As a carpenter and painter, he always worked to provide for his wife and his family. He was a man dedicated and devoted to his family by giving constant love, affection and guidance.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one brother, George Ellis.
Survivors include eight children, Danny Ellis, Jerry Ellis, Carolyn Ellis, Corrine Walker and Malcol#m Earl Ellis, all of Seattle, Franky Ellis of Ferriday, Charles C. Ellis Jr. of Lake Charles, La., and Charles Hogans of Oakland, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, Aisha Ellis, Keith Ellis, Michael Ellis, Leanna Terrell, Aaron Ellis, Kayla Ellis, Malcolm Ellis Jr., Chenelle Ellis, Danielle Ellis Simon, Mark C. Ellis, Charles C. Ellis III, Nicole Walker and Eugene Walker; five great-grandchildren; six siblings, Mary Jackson, Laura Ellis, Marie Martin, all of Jackson, Lena Branch of Los Angeles, Jack Ellis of San Diego and David Ellis of Ferriday; a loving aunt, Ludy Smith of Oakland; and a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The family sincerely appreciated the many acts of loving kindness shown during the illness and the passing of our father. Thanks to everyone. We will never forget you for your consideration, prayers and words of encouragement. May God bless you and keep you always.
Arrangements were under the direction of Bonney-Watson Funeral Home in Seattle.
