James Burden

VIDALIA – Services for James Burden, 93, of Vidalia, who died Friday, April 25, 2008, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephen Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Birdon officiating.
Burial will follow at Vidalia Cemetery under the direction of Webb Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Mr. Burden was born Nov. 11, 1914, in Deer Park, the son of Dave Burden and Amelia Jackson. He was formerly employed with the U.S. Corps of Engineers as a heavy equipment operator. He was a Baptist. Mr. Burden enjoyed farming, logging and cooking.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Burden; three sons, Kenneth Burden and wife, Bernita, both of Greenville, Samuel Burden, Troyd Burden and wife, Annette, all of Vidalia; four daughters, Doretta Walker and husband, Winston, both of Grand Rapids, Mich., Lauretha Collins and husband, Lee, Mary Seals and husband, Orshay, all of Vidalia, and Tricia Burden of Monroe, La.; a devoted grandson, Jeremy Burden; a devoted granddaughter, Margaret Burden; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; seven nieces; six nephews; one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law; and a number of other relatives and friends.
