NATCHEZ – Services for Bertha Jones, 82, of Natchez, who died Friday, May 30, 2008, at her residence, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lagrange Baptist Church with the Rev. Samuel Hines officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Ms. Jones was born in Adams County, the daughter of Willie Jones and Nellie Palmer Jones. She was a member of Lagrange Baptist Church and was a former nursing assistant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Sam Smith and Jeff Chatman; and one grandson, Daryl V. Chatman.
Survivors include one daughter, Velma Chatman of Germantown, Md.; one son, Jimmy E. Smith of New York; one niece, Nellie Dottery of Natchez; two brothers, Robert Jones, of Natchez, and David Jones of Tallulah, La.; one sister-in-law, Annie Jones of Baton Rouge; two great granddaughters; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Jones, Joseph B. Dottery, Charles Cothern, Chris Proby, James Jackson and Larry B. Green.
Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Gaylor, Amos Jackson, Ernest Jackson and Tommy Nelson.
