JACKSON — Katherine Christine Tumminello of Natchez is the recipient of the J.M. Whitfield Service Award at Millsaps College. The award is presented to the chemistry student who has demonstrated leadership and service among his or her fellow students. The award honors the memory of Dr. Johnnie-Marie Whitfield, a 1965 graduate of Millsaps, who returned to the college to teach chemistry from 1988 to her death in 2002. During the spring semester, Tuminello was selected for the Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities honors program. The award is given for scholastic achievement and outstanding campus leadership. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Sam C. Tumminello.
