FERRIDAY – Services for Amos Jones Sr., 82, of Ferriday, who died Saturday, June 14, 2008, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at New Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Birdon officiating.
Burial will follow at Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Jones was born April 19, 1926, in Wisner, La., the son of Sammy and Mamie Richardson Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Victor Jones.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Fannie Woods Jones; 10 daughters, Debbie Jones of Ferriday, Sheryl Wilson, Dorothy Higgs, both of Dallas, Katherine Stewart, Maggie Panes, both of New Orleans, Mamie Jones of Chicago, Amma J. Makoni of Aubrey, Texas, Fannie Mae Jones of Denton, Texas, Maryann Cooper of Monroe, La., and Betty Henry of Lake Charles, La.; nine sons, Tommie Wilson of Jonesville, Benny R. Jones of Dallas, Amos Jones, Ernest Jones and Russell Jones, all of Ferriday, James Jones of Harrisonburg, John Jones of Natchez, Hebert Jones of Garland, Texas, and Homa Gaines of Monroe, La.; one sister, Maddie Robertson of Seattle, Wash.; one niece, Margaret Bass; one nephew, George Jones; 54 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
