NATCHEZ — Services for Lymon Matthews, 79, of Natchez, who died Friday, June 13, 2008, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Baptist Church with Bishop James Calhoun officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of R.D. Mackel and Sons.

Visitation is from noon to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Matthews was born June 30, 1938, in Adams County, the son of John Matthews and Fannie Washington Matthews.

He was a faithful member of Harvest Time Apostolic Church where he was a deacon and trustee. He was retired from the Public Works Department with the City of Natchez.

Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Julia Hunt Smith and a grandson, Keith Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Hunt Matthews of Natchez; 14 grandchildren, Edward Hunt of Dallas, Texas, Cleveland Smith and companion, Charlotte Dotson, both of Natchez, Cortez Smith of Georgia, Stephanie Smith Kelly and husband, James, both of Ferriday, Ladacia Smith of Columbus, Judy Smith and companion, Nathaniel Brown, both of Upper Marlboro, Md., Hope Smith Veals and husband, Donald, both of Natchez, Hiwatha Smith of Tupelo, Cindy Smith of Natchez, Timothy Smith and wife, Tameki, both of Korea, Titus Smith and wife, Shemika, Chez Smith and Summer Smith, all of Tupelo; one great grandchild; like a grandson, Anthony Chaseley of Natchez; sister-in-law, Florence Matthews of Natchez; nieces and nephew, Faye Reed, Helen Hargraves, Sam Minor and Dorothy Hunt; 51 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Chaseley, Ronnie Hunt, Troy King, Eric Jennings, Cleo Smith, Cortez Smith and Edward Hunt.
