NATCHEZ — From 10 until noon today, kids can enjoy games, food and a chance to sign up for Natchez’ youth football league.

The Natchez chapter of the Mississippi Youth Sports League is organizing a youth football league for ages 6 to 8, 9 to 10 and 11 to 12.

To raise money, awareness and to have a fun event for the participants already signed up, there will be a cook out at the Natchez High School football field today.

The first year this has been in place, the league is being taken from the “ground up,” assistant coach Eddie Hawkins said.

“We’re trying to make it more organized,” Hawkins said. “When parents see that other people are involved in it, they’ll see that the league is getting off the ground.”

Another fundraiser for the league will be June 27 and 28 where the leagues booster club will be selling barbecue chicken plates in front of Wal-Mart from 9 a.m. until they run out.

Registration for the league is $45 and Hawkins said they are still accepting children.

He said 150 children have already signed up for the league.

Hawkins said everybody can join and everybody will get a chance to play.

Admission and food is free.
