JACKSON (AP) — President Bush’s appearance in Mississippi next week will be closed to the media and the public.
The president is scheduled to speak at noon Tuesday at a home in Jackson. It is campaign fundraiser for Republican U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, and tickets are $1,000 each.
Wicker’s campaign manager is Austin Barbour, a nephew of Republican Gov. Haley Barbour. The governor appointed Wicker to the Senate after Republican Trent Lott resigned last December.
Wicker faces Democratic former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove in a Nov. 4 special election. The winner will serve the final four years of the six-year term Lott started.
Austin Barbour said Friday that Wicker is honored to have Bush’s support, and the campaign event is private at the request of the White House.
