BROOKHAVEN — Quinn Logan, Trey Fleming and Thomas Garrity combined on a no-hit, 12-strikeout gem on the mound as the Natchez 11-year-old All-Stars defeated Wesson 6-0 Friday night at the sub-district tournament.

Natchez will take on host Brookhaven in a winner’s bracket game at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The first day of the tournament was pushed back a day because of inclement weather, but that didn’t phase Natchez one bit. Wesson, on the other hand, had no answer for Natchez’s outstanding trio of pitchers or its bats.

“Just a dominating pitching performance between the three 11-year-olds,” Natchez coach Billy Ray Farmer said. “Everybody put the ball in play. It was a team effort. Hitting balls and out-hustling routine ground balls.

“It rained a good bit today and it stopped and let us get through it. The kids were just dirty when we got through playing.”

Natchez scored one run in the top of the first inning, four in the top of the second and two in the top of the fifth.

Logan pitched the first two innings and was the winning pitcher. Fleming pitched the third and fourth innings and Garrity pitched the fifth and sixth innings.

8-year-old Coach Pitch All-Stars advance to sub-district finals

For the second time this week, the Natchez 8-year-old Coach Pitch All-Stars had to go to extra innings at the sub-district tournament, this time defeating Copiah 9-8 in eight innings Friday night.

With runners at second and third and one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Dayne Daye singled up the middle to bring in Jacob Wilson with the game-winning run. Wilson led Natchez at the plate by going 3-for-4.

“We were up by three runs in the top of the sixth and we let them come back and tie it, but we never game up,” Natchez coach Josh Hargon said.

That was the same lead Natchez had against Wesson on Monday only to have to go eight innings to take the win in that game.

“We started off slow, but we came alive at the end,” Hargon said. “We played good defense. We ran the bases really well. They hit the ball just like they did in the first game. They have a tough second baseman who made some good defensive plays in the first game and again in this game.”

Landon Havard went 2-for-4 with two doubles and Joshua Day was 2-for-4 with a triple.

Natchez will take on the Lincoln County Americans today at 10:30 a.m. with the winner to take on the Lincoln County Nationals in the championship game today at 12:30 p.m. All three teams have one loss.
