BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Democratic U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu has signed up for her re-election bid, minutes after her top challenger also qualified for the race.
Republican state Treasurer John Kennedy hopes to keep Landrieu from a third term in office. He also signed up Friday for the fall election.
It’s the final day of qualifying for the fall elections. Six of the state’s seven congressmen have already qualified for their races. The seventh seat is open because Republican U.S. Representative Jim McCrery is retiring after 20 years in office.
The first party primary is September 6. The general election is November 4.
