During the recent Xi Alpha Phi Sorority Founders’ Day Banquet Jeanette Webb, chapter president, announced the new theme for 2008-2009. The theme, “Rekindle the Torch of Friendship,” will be remembered in all chapter functions. The banquet was in the Turret Room at the Castle Restaurant and was planned and implemented by the sorority executive board.
Following the banquet the two major yearly awards were presented to Jeanette Webb for Woman of the Year and to Shirley Wilson for the yearly Pace Award. Both of these honorees received appropriate gifts and certificates. The winner of the Pace Award exemplifies participation, attitude, commitment and enthusiasm. Webb exemplified sorority ideals this year by serving as president and by participating in all chapter functions.
Officers for the coming year had been voted on and were announced as follows: Linda Cox, president; Beth Webb, vice president; Carole Cotton, recording secretary; Paula Young, treasurer; Gwyn Bacot, corresponding secretary; and Jean S. Simonton, historian.
Members were reminded that the state sorority convention will be this year in Cleveland in September and the 2009 convention will be in Natchez in June of 2009. Dana Dent will serve as convention chairman.
Members were also reminded to continue to donate to the Adams County Humane Society.
