VIDALIA — As Kassi Randall’s Club USA National Softball Tournament trip nears, family and friends in the community are helping Randall raise the funds she needs to participate in the tournament.
Randall, an upcoming junior softball player for the Vidalia Lady Vikings, was recently selected to play in the Tournament in Hawaii, which will be from Dec. 28 through Jan. 5.
Vidalia High School head softball coach Jeanie Hall and assistant coach Eddie Beach put together a coed softball tournament comprised of teams that play in the local coed league.
“This is something we wanted to do to help Kassi,” Hall said. “We hope this takes a big chunk out of her cost.”
The tournament, which consisted of six teams, started at 10 a.m. Saturday and ended with a championship game at 8 p.m. and was played at the Vidalia High School softball field.
Along with the games, there was a silent auction for Houston Astros tickets and raffles for prizes donated by local businesses.
“It makes me feel special that they are doing this for me,” Kassi Randall said. “All of the hard work and practice has paid off.”
Randall’s parents were also very appreciative of the support.
“It means a lot when the community reaches out and helps,” Cindi Randall said.
“The local businesses have played a big part in helping us raise money.” Greg Randall said.
The Randalls said they hope to also have a car wash and possibly another tournament later in the year when the weather is cooler.
