NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Services for Jordan Andrew Buckingham, 24, who died Sunday, July 20, 2008, in Dallas, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kyle Childress, of Austin Heights Baptist Church, and Dr. Bill Gandin of First United Methodist Church officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home.
Music will be provided by Gwendolyn Garrison Tomlin, organist, and Michael Todd Tomlin, vocalist.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. at Sulfur Bluff Cemetery in Sulphur Bluff, Texas under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors.
Jordan was born July 18, 1984, in Nacogdoches, Texas, the son of James Allan and Judith Prather Buckingham.
Jordan graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 2002 and played the tuba in the high school band. Jordan traveled to Germany and Japan as an exchange student and developed a life long love to travel. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 161 at the First United Methodist Church, attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and twice attended the Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Jordan was an avid sports fan and followed closely his favorite sports teams, including the Houston Astros, the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Rockets. He had attended Stephen F. Austin State University of Texas at Dallas, majoring in history. He had dedicated himself to being a strong and active member of the alcoholism recovery community in Dallas.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Arthur Arlton Prather; grandparents, George Burr and Jessie Watson Buckingham; and one uncle Ronald George Buckingham.
Jordan is survived by his parents of Nacogdoches; one sister, Emily Buckingham Mitchell and husband, Brandon Eugene, both of Edinburgh, Scotland; grandmother, Myrtis Bassham Prather of Natchez; three aunts, Debra Prather Gee of Natchez, Lydia Prather Ballentine of Richmond, Va., and Constance D’Amato Buckingham of Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.; and a number of cousins and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Darden and his father, Paul Darden, Michael Chism and his father, Steve Chism, and Daniel Trawick and his father, Darrel Trawick.
