FERRIDAY — After a one-year hiatus, the Huntington Lady Hounds returned to the softball diamond Tuesday night against the Wilkinson County Christian Lady Rams. Unfortunately for the Lady Hounds the return was less than joyful as they dropped the contest 13-0 to WCCA.

“The kids did a good job tonight,” Huntington head coach Marian Newman said. “We only have two or three girls that have actually played high school softball before so we have a lot of work to do.”

WCCA took a 4-0 lead after three innings and it looked as though Huntington would have a chance to stage a comeback before a six-run fourth inning by the Lady Rams gave WCCA a 10-0 lead.

The Lady Rams held the Lady Hounds scoreless in the bottom of the fourth and then scored three more runs in the top of the fifth to seal the victory.

“We had dominant pitching tonight,” WCCA head coach Ray Olive said. “We started slow, but we hit well and finished strong.”

Bethany Fletcher took the win for WCCA while Julie Moak was handed the loss for Huntington.

Caroline Walker batted 2-for-2 with a single and a double for the Lady Rams while teammate Heather Stutzman batted 2-for-4 with two singles and three RBIs.

Lauren Hall notched the only hit for the Lady Hounds.

WCCA and Huntington will both compete in the Amite School Center tournament this weekend.

WCCA travels to Trinity Episcopal next Monday for a non-district game.
