NATCHEZ — The trial of a Natchez woman accused of killing her live-in boyfriend set to begin this week has been delayed until next week.
Mary Louise McQuarters, 52, 317A Dumas Drive, faces murder charges in the Sept. 29, 2007 death of Pete Jackson, 52.
Jackson reportedly died from blunt force trauma to the back of his head. McQuarters made the 911 call about Jackson’s death from their Dumas Drive house. She was charged with murder the next day.
The couple had lived together for 13 years, a family member said, but had ongoing domestic disputes.
McQuarters was indicted by an Adams County grand jury in March.
Her trial was set to begin Tuesday, but Sixth Circuit Court Judge Forrest “Al” Johnson granted a continuance until next Tuesday.
Prosecutor Walt Brown is handling the case for the District Attorney’s office.
“We had some newly discovered evidence that came to light, so the judge granted the defense continuance,” Brown said. “The wheels of justice turn slowly sometimes.”
