MONTEREY – Services for Ottie Parker Barnette, 94, of Monterey, who died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, of natural causes at Camelot Leisure Living, in Ferriday, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Monterey Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Barnette was born in Clarks, La., and moved with her husband, J.B. Barnette, to Monterey in the early 1960s. An avid fisher, Mrs. Barnette lived at Kemp’s Landing on Concodrie Bayou in Monterey. She fished daily, twice a day, except for Sundays and was an active member of the church. She also enjoyed crochet and needlepoint and spent countless hours making patchwork quilts for friends and family members as well as embroidered pillowcases.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, June Simpson; and one son-in-law, W.D. Simpson Jr.
Survivors include two grandsons, David Simpson and wife, Ann, both of Muncie, Ind., and Chuck Simpson and wife, Diane, both of Glenburnie, Md.; and four great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Rachel, Jacob and Justin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the kitchen at the Monterey Baptist Church, 5555 Highway 129, Monterey, LA 71354.
