NATCHEZ — Entergy customers can expect even more good news when their power bills arrive — another price decrease.
The most recent announcement calls for an additional 4.6 percent drop, on top of the 5 percent announced last week.
“Five percent was good but 9.6 percent is better,” said Stephen Caruthers, Entergy customer service manager. “It’s better for me and better for our customers.”
Natural gas prices have dropped more than 10 percent since July and this most recent decrease better reflects that drop.
“The public service commission and Entergy have been having these meetings and they asked Entergy to recalculate those fuel costs,” Caruthers said. “It’s not a profit making adjustment. It’s a pass through cost.”
The rising cost of natural gas caused the 28 percent increase that went into effect in July.
“After seeing prices skyrocket more than 120 percent since last year, we are now watching them drop significantly,” said Haley Fisackerly, Entergy Mississippi president.
The 9.6 percent decrease will affect September bills, and is part of the third billing cycle. Entergy is due to file a fourth quarter fuel adjustment today, which will effect October, November and December.
Entergy has to be very careful with these adjustments, because if they are too low, customers will see a dramatic increase in price to correct it, Caruthers said.
“The guys that are actually presenting it are probably waiting until the last minute because of the price of fuel,” Caruthers said. “That’s a position I don’t want to wear the shoes on.”
