NATCHEZ – Private family services for J. Wesley Cooper, 84, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, in Natchez, will be at a later date.
Mr. Cooper was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Tifton, Ga., the son of Gary and Estelle Jones Cooper.
Mr. Cooper visited Natchez in 1948 and fell in love with the antebellum homes and Margaret Laub, his late wife.
He is known for founding Southern Historical Publications and compiling two books on antebellum homes, A Treasure of Louisiana Plantation Homes and Antebellum Houses of Natchez.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; sister-in-law, Linda Richardson and husband, Philip, both of Dallas; three nephews, Blake Richardson of Dallas, Donald Metz of Old Hickory, Tenn., and Richard Metz and wife, Fran, of Jacksonville, Fla.; one niece, Angela Richardson of Dallas; one brother-in-law, Bill Cooper of Arlington, Texas; one sister, Constance Cooper Laub and husband, Warren, both of Greensboro, N.C.; two children, Deborah Cooper Hill and husband, Jim, both of Covington, La., and Carolyn Cooper Guido and husband, Gary, both of Natchez; and two grandchildren, Megan Margaret Guido, of Jackson, and Kari Paige Guido of Natchez.
