SICILY ISLAND – Services for Walter Ramsey Myers Sr., 83, of Sicily Island, who died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at Franklin Medical Center, in Winnsboro, La., will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Sicily Island with Brother James Gass and Brother Ken Hoots officiating.
Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Mr. Myers was born Oct. 14, 1924, in Eddiceton, the son of John Myers Sr. and Retha Wallace Myers. He was a retired after 32 years with the Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator.
Mr. Myers was a member of First Baptist Church of Sicily Island. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He came to Louisiana in 1945 but always considered Mississippi his home. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1950 and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Danny Myers; one sister, Gertrude Cabarac; and one brother, John Myers Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Annie Louise Daniel Myers; two daughters, Cecilia Myers Hoffman, of Ferriday, and Johnnye Mae Myers Grubbs and husband, Mitchell, both of West Monroe, La.; one son, Walter Myers Jr. and wife, Jackie, both of Sicily Island; one sister, Ruby Myers Davis of Natchez; one brother, Willie George Myers and wife, Maureen, both of Grand Rapides, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Tish Budemer, Standley Myers and Wendy LeRay, all of Sicily Island, Matthew Myers and wife, Leanne, both of Clayton, Nancy Bicker and husband, Jonathan, both of San Antonio, Texas, Mitch Grubbs and wife, Christie, both of Bossier City, La., and Chad Grubbs of West Monroe; six great-grandchildren, Khai Dang of Walker, La., Jacob and Anna Myers, both of Clayton, Breanna and Krystal LeRay, and Will Budemer, all of Sicily Island.
Pallbearers will be Chad Grubbs, Mitch Grubbs, Matthew Myers, Standley Myers, Dallas Batey Jr. and Roger Carter.
