NATCHEZ — Acting on a tip the Natchez Police Department was able to apprehend two men wanted in separate cases at the same residence on Abbot Street.
Police Sgt. Craig Godbold said the tip led to the arrest of Erick Hutchins, 20, and Leon Jones, 27.
Godbold said Hutchins was arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence for his role in a shooting on North Circle Drive in August.
Godbold said Hutchins was the passenger in the vehicle that Charvius Martin was driving when Martin was shot and killed.
Hutchins left the scene just after the shooting, allegedly with evidence, and then returned after police arrived.
Godbold said the evidence that Hutchins left with has not been recovered.
Jones was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault for his alleged participation in a shooting on Concord Street on Sept. 8.
In that incident an 18-year-old man and another man were shot at while driving on Concord and the 18-year-old was hit once in the leg.
Both Hutchins and Jones are being held without bail.
“We knew they were running together and we’re glad we got them,” Godbold said.
