Local Dixie Bass wins Top Ten Shootout

MONTEREY, La. — Dixie Bass club of Natchez won the 2008 Top Ten Shootout on the Horseshoe Complex on Oct. 18.

The event featured 10- member teams in five boats from eight bass clubs from east central Louisiana to southwest Mississippi.

The Dixie Club is the defending champions, winning in 2007.

Every angler received a draw prize and a hamburger meal after the 3 p.m. weigh-in at The Launch on Workinger Bayou.

Team Dixie racked up 62.25 pounds on the way to winning the large championship plaque “Bak2Bak”. The DBC was led by the boats of Randy “Team Stratos” Pitre-Johnny Davis (best boat) using plastics and Robbie Buckles-Ken Mahoney (18.61 limit) also on plastics. Supporting the win were the boats of Alan Brumfield-Allen Blanton (8.92), Terrell Foster-Doug “Team Kistler” Schexnayder (7.11) and Glen-Paul Foster (6.60), age 85.

Team Concordia of Vidalia took runner-up honors with 53.4 pounds, led by the boats of John “Team Go-Mart” Bruce-Junior Book (20.62 pounds, 2nd best boat) fooled on slow baits and Tim Houghton-Chad Pugh (12.27). Other boats helping were Ronnie-Ricky “Team G-Loomis” Gillespie (8.91), James Mullins-Joe Houghton (6.36) plus Mark-Clyde Morace (5.24).

Team Borderline of Ridgecrest, La., placed third with 47.90, led by the boats of Barry-Donny Chapman (12.76) and Buddy Smith-Joey Chapman (11.77). Others helping were Bobby Hall-Jeffery Odom (10.88), Keith Andrews-Bill Murray (8.36) and Bob Holland-Steve Gibson (4.13).

Team Brookhaven of Mississippi finished fourth with 38.81 pounds, led by the boats of Butch Copeland-Jimmy Roberts (11.23), Heath Willard-Kevin Case (10.31), Jeff-Greenlee (tourney lunker 4.59)-Chip Gennaro, Jeff Covington-Steve Guidry and Dan Presley-Toby Johnson.

Team River City of Natchez took fifth place, recording with 35.35 pounds and led by the boats of Doug Jordan-Corky Ables (8.46), Carrol Huff-Jimmy June (8.11), Bo Strahan-Buz Craft , David Cooper-Gary Waller, and Brett Orth-Cliff Merritt.

Team Southwest of McComb finished in sixth with 28.04 pounds, led by the boats of Tim Stogner-Ed Dundas (10.94), Buddy French-Phillip Spring (5.10), Jerry Stubbs-Luke Lofton, David Higginbothan-Bobby Coon and Kell-Chris Thompson.

Team Miss-Lou of Natchez ranked seventh with 24.71 pounds, led by the boats of Ken McKnight-Albert Crouch (10.52), Jim-James Golmon (6.69), Beau Barfoot-Chad Young, Jerry Houghton-John Gillespie and Henry Butler-Nick Rushing.

Team Kingfishermen of Natchez placed eighth with 24.54 pounds. They were led by the boats of Robert Miles-Issac Jones (9.00), James Brown-Francis Ransom (7.52), Jimmy Sheppard-James Payne, Robert Foster-L. L. Chatman and Anthony Hauer-Andrew Rounds.
